I bought this lens for my Nikon D5000. I did some research and read that it is compatible with my camera. When it arrived I found that the auto focus didn't work at all. I immediately got on the computer and started reading other reviews to discover that many other people had the same problem, or intermittent auto focus. After more research I discovered it was not compatible with the D60, D80 or D5000. I took it to a favorite hiking spot and took some photos with the manual focus. It performed well focus aside. During my shots there was a point where the auto focus worked for ten seconds. I took one picture with it activated, then went away never to be seen again.

Auto focus issues aside this lens was good. Only downside is weight; it's extremely heavy considering no auto focus motor.
Have a Canon EOS. Was lead to believe was compatible. Worked on manual focus but not on AF. Lot of good that does.

Well worth the price. Lacks stabilization, but that doesn't slow down a good photographer.

This is the 3rd Tamron lens I have purchased. I think they are Grreat for the money. They are light weight and work fine. I carried an 18~200 to Europe and got everything I was wanting. I have not found a downside yet.

This lens works great with my Canon 40d. Lightweight, quick focus and great images using both wide and telephoto shots. It is nice not having to change lenses all the time. Used it indoors for a birthday party with low light. No problems with the focus and images captured. I would have given this a 5 star, but the lens creep will take awhile to get used to.

I bought this lens to take better photographs of my boys' football games. One of my boys frequently plays at night & I have been thrilled with the performance of this lens on my Rebel XSi.

excellent outdoors, traveling, and for the kids sports shots

I spent many weeks reading all the reviews on all the lenses I was contemplating. This is a true walk-around lens. Actually, I've retired most of my other lenses. Very pleased.

Used on Rebel XT. Great single lens for wide variety of situations. Has metal mount, compact, lightweight, quick focus for both wide & tele shots. Enlargements have very good resolution. Indoor flash shots will vary with the quality of your flash unit. Great lens for the casual photog, good lens for the semi pro, good backup lens for the pro. Great value for all.

Some vingnetting is evident through the view finder. But this is a nice fast lens which works well over the focal range.

Just getting started with the lens. I really like the fact that i can use one lens for a wide variety of shots. The barrel is shorter than my other 250mm so steadying it is easier too.

Very good results. One problem ,takes longer time to focus than a Nikon. But for the price difference, worth it.

I am happy to get a versatile lens by a good company at a decent price. For some reason, some shots come back overexposed and I can see no reason why. I can use the same settings and take the picture again and it will correctly expose the shot. This is the only lens to which I have this occurring & I own 4 other lenses. I am using this on a Canon Rebel. I like all the other features with the lens. It is definitely a basic lens without image stabilization, but why it misinterprets the ttl readings bugs me. Still, I can have the camera in the back seat and be ready for any opportunity to capture a picture wherever I may be.

I wanted a lens that I could leave on my camera for 99 percent of my photo requirements. This is the lens. It doesn't have image stablization, but I haven't found that to be a big problem with my type of usage.

Really just a fantastic lens. For the price, which was a major consideration for giving the 5 stars, it just doesn't get any better. The enormous length of 18-250 gives you a wide angle approaching "fish eye" category, and an extreme zoom as well, without having to change lenses, wasting time and exposing the precious insides of the camera. Tamron is really leaps and bounds above Sigma and other "third party" brands. The only cons I can list, which basically can't be helped is the lens creep if you're pointing down at a sharp angle, and if I had everything my way, I'd build the lock on this camera so it can lock at any length, not just all the way in at 18mm. Although I've photographed at a friend's outdoor wedding and a few other events with this lens, I use this lens mostly for filming on a Canon 7d.A few examples for you below.[@]

The Lens arrived right on time.
The Tamron 18-250 mm lens works great on my Nikon D80 and is perfect for every day use.

I got the lens used but as good as new cosmetically (E+). I do not expect a sharp performer from this lens before I order it, primarily because it is an all-in-one and almost all reviews say about its main advantage being portability but not opticality. In particular, I have tried a Tamron 18-270 VC before and it was not a satisfactory experience. Well, for the price, I purchased it and soon after I took a few pictures I know I have gotten a good copy. When focused well, the images are sharp, comparably with Canon 70-300mm IS. The Bokeh is nice too, although not as nice as Canon. Of course, just like any other telescope lenses at this price range, the images might be softer at the extreme ends but I found it is acceptable. On the down side, for those people that do not have perfect steady hand, I would not suggest it be used in low light. Lens creeps. Focus is a bit slower. One time (so far), I did experience the lens can not focus.Dispite of those negative aspects, I am still happy with its performance. I have been hunting for good all-in-one lens for a while and it finally comes to a rest. [...]

I have been an amateur photographer for over 15 years. Bought this lens for my Pentax K-m to save me from switching lenses while traveling. Being a petite girl, it's quite burdensome to carry all the different lenses and accessories abroad, so I started looking for a solution. Originally, I purchased the Sigma version of this lens after seeing photos taken by my friend's Canon T1i, but found issues in focusing with Pentax so it was sent back. I then moved on to look for Pentax lenses. However, they've discontinued their own version of super zoom and there is no 18-270mm available for Pentax on the market yet, thus, the Tamron 18-250mm was the only option left for me. I've had this lens for about 6 months now and I love it. By no means this will replace the kit lens, but it's the perfect walk around lens so far. As expected, the autofocus is slow in low light situation and macro shots aren't as sharp as the kit lens. My only concern is the zoom lock which some other reviewers have noted that it's easy to break and costly to repair but I think this can be avoided with careful use... Can't wait to take it with me on my next vacation abroad along with the 18-45mm kit lens!

I love this lens for what it offers, taking a variety of great photos with out having to change anything out. I do a lot of hiking with this and it's great for that variety, either wildlife out in the distance or a great shot of a mountain view. The only thing I find a little annoying is the lens not being able to 'lock' to stop the expansion while your walking. All in all though this is a great lense that I have some fantasitc photos from.

For a somewhat less $$ than Canon this lens is a very good all around bit of glass to leave on the camera for most shooting situations. I see no major flaws in the photos and the lens seems well constructed. I also have a Canon 10-20 Wide angle USM and a Canon 18-135 which came with my camera body. I've made some really nice photos with this lens and I'd buy it again.

Like most people here I'm very pleased with this lens, and if you stop down even one stop its really sharp. Slightly soft at 250mm, so I avoid that, sweet spot aperturewise is about F8 to f14 but having said that it does a decent job at any aperture. A great all in one lens that eliminates dust issues because I never have to change i! One small problem is the "zoom creep" when the lens if pointed down. In my case its more like "zoom fall". I wish the zoom were a little stiffer, but I avoid this by keeping the lock on when I'm not using it.

Great zoom! A little difficult to get sharp focus at 250mm but overall a great lens for the money.

Because of sturdy build quality, solid performance, and value, Tamron has become my current favorite non-Canon lens manufacturer, for my EOS system SLR's. Having had great results with Tamron's 17-50mm, and 28-75mm Di LD zooms, I had no reservations about choosing the Tamron 18-250mm zoom (F3.5-6.3), when I needed a general use lens for travelling. Thus far, this superzoom has proved to be a versatile performer, that provides good results across a wide focal range. An excellent choice as a walk-around or travel lens. With this one lens, you can easily shoot decent quality landscapes and scenic shots, or get in close for basic portraits.

The housing is primarily plastic, making the weight very manageable. The 62mm lens is well constructed, and compact, measuring 3.5 inches high, and 6.5 inches fully extended. There is a nice wide rubber grip circling the barrel. Autofocusing is reasonably fast, smooth, and silent, with minimal vibration. As you might expect, the lens is subject to some lens creep, but there is a lock button, to keep the barrel from extending when not in use.

While you probably will not achieve spectacular results across the board, you can probably expect images that while somewhat soft, still look reasonably sharp, without excessive distortion. As the barrel extends, weight should not be a major issue, but holding the camera steady becomes more critical, as the lens does not have image stabilization.

Besides generally good performance, the convenience of this lens is another of its major attributes. As Canon does not manufacturer a lens in this focal range, you will be looking at a non-Canon lens. At this price level, you probably won't get much better performance. Buying from Amazon, you have the opportunity to try out the lens, and return it if it does not meet your expectations. And Tamron lenses are covered by a six year factory warranty.

This is the best all around lens developed for the Nikon digital SLR camera. It replaces 3 other lens I had to do what this single lens does and I am carrying a lighter load.Tamron AF 18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Zoom Lens with Built In Motor for Nikon DSLR
